Candidates announced for LYCRA® Future Designers Award 2015

This year’s 6th edition of the INVISTA LYCRA® Future Designers award includes an amazing shortlist of ten talents from around the world - South America, Europe, and Asia. The designs boast a clear differentiation of inspiration while showing a trend that culture plays a big part in the ideation process.

Announced on February 26th in London at a press cocktail at Le Peep Boutique by WGSN, the style intelligence business, the 10 hopefuls are in the running for one of the WGSN Global Fashion Awards “emerging talents” categories, the LYCRA® Future Designers award, sponsored by INVISTA. The event was hosted by Amber Le Bon.

This year, the global selection includes student designers or young graduates from South America, Asia and Europe. Agustina Andrea Delgado Recke (Argentina), Natalia Vechiatto Feitoza (Brazil), Yiyi Guo (China), SiChen Huang (China), Wang Xiang Yi (China), Pui Yan Rachel Tse (France), Sukriti Mandal (India), Silvia Teh (Singapore), Cassandra Verity Green (UK) and Geraldina Montemayor (UK).

“We are really excited to have such a strong list of candidates for the LYCRA® Future Designers award this year,” says Bob Kirkwood, Executive VP of Technology & Marketing at INVISTA Apparel & Advanced Technologies. “Having a global representation of creative talents is very important for the fashion, design and apparel industries. We are certain that the recipient of our award will make an impact on the industry,” he says.

The award is an opportunity for a future leader in the fashion industry attain his/her full potential. He/she will have the chance to work with expert mentors at INVSITA, owner of the LYCRA®, COOLMAX®, and THERMOLITE® brands (among others), as well as benefit-in-kind to aid the development of a collection to help kick-start their careers.

Participants were invited to submit designs that could be manufactured using fabrics with LYCRA® fibre, along with mood boards and supporting documentation to make their case. Entries needed to be made up of any of the following categories of apparel: intimates, swim, active sportswear, hosiery or denim. The winner will understand the importance that LYCRA® fibre is to his/her work, and how it can change the lives of the consumers -- bringing them the extra comfort, fit and freedom of movement that LYCRA® fibre has proven to give.

This edition marks the third time INVISTA participates with its LYCRA® Future Designers category as part of the WGSN Global Fashion Awards. Previously, the award was an event in itself organized by INVISTA, first started in South America in 2009. The final winner will be presented on 14 May at The Park Lane Hotel in London, UK.

The WGSN Global Fashion Awards are staged by the world’s leading trend and style forecaster. Previous judges include industry influencers Giles Deacon, Stephen Jones, Rankin (INVISTA’s chosen photographer talent for its latest strategy LYCRA® MOVES YOU™), Laura Bailey. The 2013 LYCRA® Future Designers title was awarded to Lucy Gardner who graduated from Falmouth University.
